Anwar: No One Exempt from Scrutiny, Due Process for Sabri

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has reiterated his commitment to transparency and accountability within the government, stating that no one is exempt from scrutiny, regardless of their position. This comes as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigates former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“The investigation by the authorities into Ismail Sabri Yaakob is being conducted in accordance with principle,” Anwar Ibrahim said, emphasizing that even members of the Council of Ministers are not above the law. He also welcomes any information regarding potential misconduct by ministers, urging citizens to come forward with credible tip-offs.

MACC Postpones Questioning

However, Anwar Ibrahim stressed that due process must be followed in all investigations, particularly concerning Ismail Sabri. "Any investigations or inquiries must adhere to proper due process, particularly in matters related to Ismail Sabri," he stated. This emphasis on fairness comes as the MACC has postponed questioning Ismail Sabri due to a medical certificate.

According to a MACC source, the anti-graft agency will not question the former prime minister as he has been given a medical certificate valid until March 12. This postponement allows Ismail Sabri time to recover before facing questioning related to the ongoing investigation.

Focus on Financial Policies

In addition to addressing matters of governance and accountability, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also chaired the annual meeting of the National Financial Council in Putrajaya. The meeting, attended by key government officials and financial experts, focused on Malaysia's financial policies and economic outlook for 2025.
