Apple has given its iPad Air lineup a boost, integrating the M3 chip for enhanced performance and pairing it with a redesigned Magic Keyboard. This update, while perhaps unexpected so soon after the last, aims to provide users with a smoother and more responsive experience.
Power Up with the M3
The new iPad Air comes in both 11-inch and 13-inch sizes, maintaining the same starting prices as the previous model: $599 for the 11-inch and $799 for the 13-inch. While the M3 chip offers a performance bump, some might question its significance for everyday use. As one source notes, "an M3 versus the M2 that it had before likely won't make a big difference to most users." However, the upgrade aligns the iPad Air with Apple's broader silicon strategy.

Most other specifications remain largely unchanged. The displays retain the same resolution and 60Hz refresh rate, although they feature full lamination and an antireflective coating. Touch ID remains on the power button, and storage starts at 128GB. 5G wireless capability is available as an optional upgrade.
A Magic Keyboard Makeover
One notable change is the updated Magic Keyboard. Apple has surprisingly lowered the price, with the 11-inch version starting at $269 and the 13-inch at $319 – a $30 reduction. The new keyboard is lighter and thinner, featuring a handy function key row.
Despite these improvements, some features are absent compared to the iPad Pro's Magic Keyboard. It lacks backlighting and haptic feedback on the trackpad. However, the updated keyboard is still considered "a definite step up over the older model Apple offered, at a better price as well."

Availability and Colors
Pre-orders for the new iPad Air are open now, with shipping scheduled to begin on March 12. The devices are available in the same four colors as the previous generation: space grey, starlight silver, purple, and blue.

This refresh of the iPad Air demonstrates Apple's commitment to keeping its product line current, even if the changes are incremental. While the M3 chip may not be a game-changer for all users, the updated Magic Keyboard and consistent pricing make the new iPad Air a compelling option for those seeking a powerful and versatile tablet.
Looking Ahead: iOS 19 Rumors
While the iPad Air update is the current focus, Apple is also gearing up for future software releases. Rumors are already circulating about iOS 19, expected to be unveiled at WWDC in June and released in September 2025 alongside the iPhone 17. This update is anticipated to build upon the "Apple Intelligence" features introduced in iOS 18, promising further advancements in the Apple ecosystem.
