Crushers fall, 4-2, at Washington

Jack Harris belted a solo home run in the second, but the Crushers fell, 4-2, at Washington to the host Wild Things on July 25. Jarrod Watkins tripled, walked and scored a run on a wild pitch for Lake Erie (38-25). Cal Carver was solid in relief, going two shutout innings and striking out five. The Crushers will head to Evansville to begin a weekend series at 7:35 p.m. July 26.
Area Legion baseball roundup for Thursday, July 25
WEST FARGO — The West Fargo Patriots and Mandan Chiefs split a doubleheader on Thursday night at Young Field.
In the first game, the Patriots notched seven runs in the third inning to break open the contest. West Fargo's Caleb Anderson, Jackson Glienke and Landon Troftgruben all pinged RBI singles in the frame.
Caleb Duerr recorded the win on the mound, allowing two unearned runs on two hits and striking out eight. Duerr finished 3-for-4 with a double at the plate. Glienke and Troftgruben both had two hits.
Mandan's Brayden Bunnell, Jamison Nelson and Carson Ressler had the only hits.
The Chiefs pitching staff held West Fargo to just two hits in the second game. Jordan Binder earned the win, allowing one run on one hit and striking out five. McCoy Keller shut the door with two strikeouts in two innings of relief.
Nelson had a double in a two-hit game with three RBIs. Hudsen Sheldon and Keller both finished 2-for-4.
Patriots pitcher Parker Henrich worked three innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits with six strikeouts. Trey Husar and Luke Finn had the lone hits.
MN Legion
East Grand Forks 6, Moorhead 4
ALEXANDRIA, Minn. — The fourth-seeded East Grand Forks Post 157 fended off the top-seeded Moorhead Blues behind a late surge of runs in the Minnesota Legion Sub-State 12 Tournament winners bracket semifinals.
Moorhead led 4-0 but EGF stormed back scoring three runs in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh inning. Post 157 pitcher Jake Stassen allowed one hit and struck out three in five shutout innings to get the win in relief.
Hunter Varnson was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Levi Anderson and Noah Frize also had two hits.
Moorhead's Carson Heinsch had two hits and drove in a run. Austin Schwantz was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Ben Fredrickson was 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. Greg Noel struck out eight in six innings.
DGF Post 397 8, Roseau 1
RED LAKE FALLS, Minn. — The No. 1 seed from the Southern Division Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Post 397 jolted the Northern Division No. 4 Roseau in the first round of the Minnesota Division II Sr. Northwest Sub-State Tournament on Thursday.
DGF plated four runs in the fifth inning and capitalized on seven Roseau errors. Post 397 pitcher Austin Anderson picked up the win, allowing one run on eight hits with eight strikeouts.
Cayson Bergee was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Austin Anderson had two hits, two walks and two RBIs. Alex Anderson was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Roseau's Eli Wensloff, Jack Jerome and Austin Klint all had two hits.
New Mexico St. volleyball adds Aggie legend Lia Mosher to staff
LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KTSM) - New Mexico State volleyball adds Lia Mosher to its staff ahead of the 2024 season, a former legend within its program.
Mosher spent five seasons playing under head coach Mike Jordan, now joining him on the bench as the teams assistant coach.
The former middle blocker played in 140 matches during her time in Las Cruses collecting four regular season championships and two WAC Tournament titles with the Aggies.
The Ruidoso native still holds six top-10 records within the programs 50-year history.
This includes the second highest hitting percentage, ninth career solo blocks, third career block assists and third most total blocks.
Mosher is also a two time All-WAC First Team selection.
