A wave of sadness and mystery surrounds actor Gene Hackman following the discovery of his wife, Betsy Arakawa, and their dog, Zinna, deceased in their home. The Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office is investigating the circumstances, which have left many questions unanswered.

A Troubling Discovery
The 12-year-old Australian Kelpie mix, Zinna, was found dead inside a closed dog crate inside the home. The location of the crate, only 10 to 15 feet away from the body of Betsy Arakawa, has added another layer of sorrow to the already tragic situation. Zinna was reportedly very loyal to Arakawa, making the circumstances even more perplexing.
Authorities initially suspected possible carbon monoxide poisoning, leading to an investigation by the New Mexico Gas Company. "New Mexico Gas Company conducted an extensive investigation for gas leaks and carbon monoxide at the property," the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office stated.

No Carbon Monoxide Detected
However, preliminary reports indicate that both Hackman and Arakawa tested negative for carbon monoxide poisoning. This discovery further deepens the mystery surrounding their deaths. Initial estimates suggested they might have been deceased for up to nine days before being found.
"The preliminary autopsy report indicates that they could have been dead for up to 'nine days' when they were found," according to sources close to the investigation.
Authorities have indicated no signs of foul play, but the investigation is ongoing. The passing of Zinna, especially given the circumstances, has only amplified the tragedy and raised further questions.
