Italy Announces Energy Aid, UK Mosques Targeted

Italy has announced a new energy aid package aimed at easing the burden of rising energy costs on families and businesses. However, the short-term nature of the aid has drawn criticism. Meanwhile, in the UK, disturbing reports have emerged of Russian-linked Telegram channels allegedly offering cryptocurrency for attacks on mosques.

Italy's Energy Relief Package

The Italian government, led by Prime Minister Meloni, has allocated 3 billion euros to help families and businesses cope with soaring energy bills. Approximately 1.6 billion euros is earmarked for families, while 1.4 billion euros will go to businesses. Finance Minister Giorgetti has emphasized that this initiative does not involve creating new debt.

Consumer associations have welcomed the extension of social bonuses, which will now be available to households with an ISEE (Equivalent Economic Situation Indicator) up to 5,000 euros. However, they have criticized the fact that the aid package is limited to just three months, calling it a "slap in the face." The government has also postponed the introduction of free market measures for vulnerable groups for another two years.

UK Mosques Targeted?

In a disturbing development, reports have surfaced that Telegram channels with alleged links to Russia are offering cryptocurrency payments to individuals in the UK in exchange for carrying out attacks on mosques and Muslims. Campaigners have raised the alarm about this activity, which appears to be inciting violence and hatred.

These channels have already been linked to incidents of Islamophobic graffiti sprayed on mosques and schools in east and south London earlier this month. The graffiti sometimes included the names of groups mentioned in the Telegram channels. Police are currently investigating these incidents.
