MWC 2025: AI Laptops, Solar PCs, and Agent Debates

Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona is proving to be a hotbed of innovation, with manufacturers showcasing everything from AI-powered laptops to eco-friendly PCs and engaging in debates about the future of artificial intelligence. Let's dive into some of the highlights.

Lenovo's AI-Enhanced Laptops

Lenovo has made a splash at MWC with the unveiling of two new laptops featuring generative AI capabilities. The Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition, a collaboration with Intel, promises a personalized and productive computing experience. Powered by the Intel Core Ultra processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 GPU, the Aura Edition boasts a stunning 16-inch 3.2K PureSight Pro display. The display's double layer of OLED pixels pushes its brightness to 1600 nits while enhancing power efficiency.

According to Lenovo, the display also supports 100 percent sRGB, P3, and Adobe RGB color gamut for true-to-life color accuracy. The Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition also includes the Lenovo Creator Zone, an on-device AI suite designed to simplify the use of third-party video, photo, and music applications. It's slated for release in the second quarter of 2025, with a starting price of $1,799.

Lenovo also introduced the IdeaPad Slim 3x, a 15-inch Copilot+ PC powered by the Snapdragon X chip. This platform aims to make Copilot+ PCs accessible to a wider audience. The IdeaPad Slim 3x can handle AI tasks locally and features a dedicated key for Microsoft’s Copilot assistant. A notable feature is its open SSD slot, allowing users to easily expand storage capacity. The IdeaPad Slim 3x is expected to be available this month, starting at $649.

Eco-Friendly Computing: Solar-Powered PCs

Beyond AI, MWC 2025 is also highlighting sustainability. One of the most eye-catching innovations is a PC equipped with solar panels. The world's biggest PC seller unveiled this environmentally friendly laptop concept, demonstrating a commitment to sustainable technology. Imagine being able to power up your laptop anywhere the sun shines! This concept underscores the growing importance of eco-conscious design in the tech industry.

The AI Agent Debate: What Exactly Are They?

The buzz around AI continues to grow, and Mobile World Congress provided a platform for discussing the next evolution: AI agents. Bret Taylor, chairman of OpenAI, addressed the topic during a fireside chat. However, a precise definition of AI agents remained elusive.

When questioned by CNN moderator Anna Stewart about the difference between "agentic AI" and a GenAI chatbot, Taylor opted to highlight the potential of AI agents rather than offer a direct explanation. This left some attendees wondering about the specific capabilities and distinctions of this emerging technology.
