The New York City subway system just got a high-tech boost, and it's not what you might expect. Forget new trains or station renovations – the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is turning to artificial intelligence and readily available smartphones to keep the rails in top condition.

TrackInspect: Pixel Phones on Patrol

The MTA is currently testing a project called "TrackInspect" that utilizes Google Pixel Android smartphones as diagnostic tools. Imagine that: everyday phones helping to ensure the safety and efficiency of one of the world’s busiest subway systems!

Here's how it works: Pixel phones are attached to subway cars. The phones' built-in microphones and motion sensors then go to work, detecting vibrations and sound patterns along the tracks. These subtle auditory and vibrational signatures can indicate areas that may require maintenance, allowing the MTA to proactively address potential problems before they escalate.

“This innovative approach leverages existing technology to improve the safety and reliability of our subway system,” says an MTA spokesperson. “We’re excited to see the positive impact of TrackInspect.”

What’s New with the Pixel 9?

But the Pixel news doesn't stop there. Google is also gearing up to release the Pixel 9, and it's packed with exciting new features for content creators and everyday users alike.

One of the most anticipated additions is a new multi-camera mode. This feature will allow you to connect your Pixel 9 to another Pixel phone or even a GoPro, enabling you to add different camera angles to your livestreams. Imagine the possibilities for vloggers, journalists, and anyone who wants to create more dynamic and engaging content!

And speaking of content, the Pixel 9 series app is also receiving some significant updates aimed at making content categorization far less annoying. Two big updates are rolling out this month to streamline the process, saving you time and frustration.
