The Podkarpacie region of Poland has been the scene of several disturbing incidents recently, highlighting issues of crime, justice, and accountability. From a family dispute turned violent to a brutal assault and a tragic death, these cases have captured public attention and raised questions about the legal system.
Family Feud Turns Violent
In a shocking incident, 67-year-old Mariusz I., a well-known politician from the Przemyśl area and a former candidate for the provincial assembly, shot his son-in-law during a family barbecue. What started as a seemingly normal gathering quickly escalated into a violent confrontation. 
Initially facing a life sentence, Mariusz I. saw the charges softened, and the court ultimately sentenced him to one year of suspended imprisonment. Adding insult to injury, his cherished weapon, described as his "pride and passion," was confiscated by the state. This case raises questions about the role of politics and influence in the judicial process.

Brutal Assault and Humiliation
Another disturbing case involves 20-year-old Dominik from Krosno, who was subjected to a brutal assault. His attackers beat him, stripped him naked, and left him in a forest five kilometers from the nearest houses. The perpetrators threatened to release a compromising recording of his humiliation if he spoke out. However, Dominik bravely defied their threats and reported the crime. 
After a year-long legal battle, the court sentenced four of the assailants to prison and handed the fifth a suspended sentence. In a symbolic act of justice, the court also confiscated the phones used to record the attack, preventing the spread of the humiliating footage.
Tragedy in Sosnowiec: Justice Delayed?
Meanwhile, in Sosnowiec, the Family Court is hearing the case of three 16-year-olds suspected of fatally beating 28-year-old Marcin Mizi during a concert celebrating Sosnowiec Days. The suspects, identified as Wiktor, Jakub, and Dominik, are still minors. 
Their defense lawyers claim they have no connection to the tragic events, citing doubts regarding the case. The proceedings are taking place behind closed doors, and information about the trial is scarce. The victim's family, especially his parents, are struggling to cope with the uncertainty and the slow pace of justice. With each session, they lose hope that those responsible for Marcin's death will be held accountable.
These cases highlight the challenges facing the justice system in the Podkarpacie region, from issues of violence and accountability to the impact of crime on victims and their families. The outcomes of these trials will undoubtedly shape public perception of justice and the rule of law in the region.
