Tourist season is kicking off with a bang, and not always in a good way. From drunken escapades in Rome to turbulent seas near New Zealand, travelers are finding themselves in hot water, and sometimes, quite literally.
Trevi Fountain Debauchery
Rome, the eternal city, witnessed some less-than-eternal behavior recently. Over the weekend, three tourists from New Zealand, reportedly under the influence, decided to take a dip in the iconic Trevi Fountain. Police intervened, but one particularly bold individual wasn't ready to call it quits.
After being apprehended, the tourist managed to evade authorities and plunged back into the fountain for a second swim. This stunt earned him a 500-euro fine (a little over 12,000 Czech koruna) and a lifetime ban from approaching the Baroque masterpiece. Talk about an expensive swim!
"We're seeing more and more of these incidents," said a local Roman shopkeeper. "It's disrespectful to our city and its history."
Cruise Ship Calamity in New Zealand
Meanwhile, across the globe in New Zealand, a cruise ship encountered a different kind of aquatic adventure – a severe storm. The turbulent seas left 16 passengers injured as the vessel was tossed around like a toy. Footage from the ship paints a chaotic picture, with pools overflowing and passengers desperately clinging to tables in the canteen to avoid being swept away.
The video footage shared online shows the severity of the storm. It is a stark reminder that while cruises offer relaxation and adventure, they are still subject to the whims of nature.
Whether it's misbehaving in historical landmarks or battling stormy seas, these incidents serve as a reminder to respect your surroundings and be prepared for the unexpected when traveling. Safe travels, everyone!
