Volkswagen is making a bold move towards affordable electric mobility with the unveiling of the ID.EVERY1 concept car. The German automaker showcased its upcoming entry-level EV at an event in Wolfsburg, Germany, promising a "smart, flexible, and affordable" vehicle for the European market. Scheduled for production in 2027, the ID.EVERY1 is expected to start at around €20,000 (approximately US$21,583).

Built for Europe, by Europe
The ID.EVERY1 will join the ID.2all and the sport version of the ID.GTI on Volkswagen's versatile MEB modular platform. This platform is designed to support a range of vehicles, from compact cars like the ID.EVERY1 to larger SUVs. Volkswagen plans to launch four electric models based on the front-wheel-drive version of the MEB platform by 2027, solidifying its commitment to electric vehicle development.
According to Volkswagen, the ID.EVERY1 will be the first model to feature a "fundamentally new, particularly powerful software architecture." This architecture is rumored to be the result of Volkswagen's $5 billion partnership with Rivian, promising to future-proof the vehicle and allow for new functions to be added throughout its lifespan.

Modest Specs, Appealing Price
While the ID.EVERY1's specifications might not be groundbreaking, they offer a compelling balance for budget-conscious buyers. The concept car can reach speeds of over 80 mph (130 km/h) thanks to its 70 kW (94 horsepower) electric motor. Volkswagen estimates a range of at least 155 miles (250 km) on a single charge. The compact EV measures just 12.7 feet in length, fitting neatly between the now-retired VW up! and the ID.2all. It comfortably seats four passengers and offers a cargo volume of 10.8 cubic feet.
Volkswagen Head of Design Andreas Mindt emphasized the car's appealing aesthetic: "Our ambition was to create something bold yet accessible. The ID.EVERY1 has a self-assured appearance but remains likeable – thanks to details such as the dynamic front lights and the 'smiling' rear. These design elements make it more than just a car: they give it character and an identity that people can relate to."

Exclusively for Europe
Unfortunately for those outside of Europe, the ID.EVERY1 is currently slated as a "from Europe for Europe" model. This means that North American consumers may miss out on this affordable EV option. The car represents Volkswagen's commitment to providing accessible electric mobility solutions within the European market.
With its blend of affordability, innovative technology, and appealing design, the ID.EVERY1 aims to be a game-changer in the entry-level EV segment. Only time will tell if it lives up to the hype when it hits the roads in 2027.

The unveiling of the ID.1 concept car further solidifies Volkswagen's commitment to affordability in the EV market. While details remain limited, the ID.1 promises to be the company's cheapest all-electric model to date.
